AC Milan, Napoli and Como have reportedly reignited their interest in Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford as his dream move to Barcelona hangs by a thread.
Rashford is expected to permanently leave United this summer as he has no future at the club while Ruben Amorim is still the boss. The two fell out shortly after Amorim’s appointment as Erik ten Hag’s replacement.
The England international was left out of a number of matchday squads, prompting United to sanction a January loan exit to Aston Villa. Rashford rediscovered some of his form at Villa, scoring four goals and providing an additional six assists in 17 appearances.
Villa have the option to make his stay a permanent one for £40m but it doesn’t seem like they will pursue this course of action.
Meanwhile, Rashford is believed to have his heart set on a move to Barcelona. The Blaugrana were an interested party in the United star during the winter window but their dire financial position prevented a deal from getting over the line.
There have been suggestions that preliminary talks have already taken place between Barca and Rashford’s camp. A report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that Rashford is even willing to take a pay cut to complete a dream switch to Camp Nou.
However, Rashford’s hopes of a move could be dashed, with Barcelona now reportedly focused on signing Athletic Club’s Nico Williams instead. According to TEAMtalk, the transfer is “in jeopardy” as the Catalan side prioritise Williams, who operates in the same role.
But, there are still plenty of suitors for the Carrington academy graduate.
The 27-year-old has already been heavily linked with Inter Milan, and TEAMtalk report that Napoli, AC Milan, and Serie A newcomers Como are also in the mix. The Italian trio were interested back in January, but a move never materialised.
TEAMtalk explain, ” Napoli, AC Milan, and Como have all sounded out the possibility of a deal, with sources again confirming Rashford’s openness to an overseas transfer.”
“Napoli’s attacking setup and Milan’s pending squad rebuild make them strong candidates, while Como’s ambitious project could appeal as a wildcard option.”
Napoli are on the hunt for a replacement for Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, while Milan view Rashford as an ideal replacement for Rafael Leao, who is facing an uncertain future at the San Siro.
TEAMtalk note that Rashford’s United exit is “inevitable” although a transfer may drag ot until the final days of the transfer window, given his huge salary and United’s desire for a cash sale.
Rashford’s representatives are currently focused on finding him a new club. It’s understood that “there have been hints from sources of a surprise option appearing in the coming weeks.”
Rashford has three years left on his United contract.
