Bayern Munich confirmed last month that Leon Goretzka will leave the club after the end of the season once his contract expires.

The German international was heavily linked with a move away from Bayern throughout the January window, but the midfielder decided to stay put.

We previously reported that Atletico Madrid were seriously interested in signing him, but they were not willing to pay Bayern’s asking price.

Despite signing Conor Gallagher in January, Tottenham were looking to add more players during the winter transfer window, and wanted to bring Goretzka to the north London club.

There were even suggestions that Goretzka’s representatives had made contact with Spurs, and talks took place over a potential move.

Christian Falk exclusively told CFBayern Insider that Premier League leaders Arsenal were seriously interested in signing Goretzka before deadline day.

However, at that point, the former Schalke midfielder had already informed Bayern that he wanted to stay for the rest of the season and was not looking to move.

There is a strong chance that Goretzka could move to Arsenal next summer if the north London club make an offer for him.

The German midfielder believes his playing Style fits the Premier League perfectly, so a potential move cannot be ruled out.

Leon Goretzka – great servant for Bayern?

Since joining the club in the summer of 2018, Goretzka has made 292 appearances for the Bavarian giants, scoring 47 goals in all competitions.

This season, he has made 15 starts in the Bundesliga, and a further three appearances have come from the bench, scoring one goal.

Vincent Kompany has used Aleksandar Pavlovic regularly in Champions League games, and Goretzka did not make a single start in the group phase.

Considering his quality and wealth of experience, Kompany will need his presence in midfield as Bayern aim to retain the Bundesliga title.

Goretzka has won six Bundesliga titles and one Champions League in his career, and he should not leave the club with any regrets.
