Switzerland and Germany share seven goals, Amenda wins his fifth cap and four Eagles gear up for action on Saturday. Here is a brief resume of what has happened so far and what is still to come.
The St.-Jakob-Park in Basel was the place to be on Friday night when hosts Switzerland and Germany scored no fewer than seven goals between them. After lead changes aplenty, it was Germany who came out on top in the end 4-3. There was an Eagle in either dressing room in Nathaniel Brown and Aurèle Amenda, and while the German wideman was an unused substitute, the Swiss central defender came on in the 62nd minute to win his fifth cap. Both teams will play another friendly during this international break, with Germany taking on Ghana, and Switzerland heading over to Norway.
Seven goals in Genoa
Fans at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris in Genoa were also treated to seven goals, with Algeria thrashing Guatemala 7-0. Farès Chaibi watched on from the bench for the Desert Foxes, who will next face Uruguay in Turin.
Nineteen-year-old goalkeeper Amil Siljevic was not part of the Bosnia and Herzegovina squad which drew 0-0 in European U21 Championship qualifying with Slovenia.
Four Eagles potentially in action
Love Arrhov’s Sweden U19 side are also looking for points in their European Championship qualifying campaign after a draw with Germany on Wednesday at the maxworx Sportpark Dreieich. They now take on Austria at midday today at the DFB Campus in Frankfurt. Arthur Theate’s Belgium and Ellyes Skhiri’s Tunisia have friendlies in North America, while Ritsu Doan’s Japan face Scotland.
