Seven midfield options for Nottingham Forest as Man City pursue Elliot Anderson

Nottingham Forest are likely to reinforce midfield this summer as Manchester City pursue Elliot Anderson. It appears a case of when rather than if he leaves, and figures of up to £130 million have been floated. City prefer to conclude business before England’s World Cup, though a strong tournament could lift his value.

Attention turns to potential replacements for the 23-year-old. Sport Witness has suggested Forest have asked again about Davide Frattesi, now rated at about £19 million, with Napoli also interested.

Forest saw three bids for Arne Engels rejected by Celtic in January, including a package up to £25 million. The 22-year-old remains on their list, though Fulham, Sunderland and West Ham could compete.

They are said to have held conversations about Barcelona midfielder Marc Casado too. The 22-year-old is expected to seek regular football, with Monaco and Real Betis linked and a fee near £20 million mooted.

A reunion with Marshall Munetsi is another possibility after he worked with Vitor Pereira at Wolverhampton Wanderers. He ended the season on loan at Paris FC and is thought to prefer staying in the French capital.

Middlesbrough’s Hayden Hackney has long been tracked and, after Boro missed promotion, a move seems likely. Everton is said to be his preference.

Two ideas sit outside current links. Liverpool’s Curtis Jones is reportedly valued at £35 million with a year left, while former loanee James Garner, now at Everton until 2030 after a standout 2025/26, would fit but looks unlikely.
