Sevilla players were confronted by a group of masked supporters at the training ground after their 1-0 defeat at Real Oviedo overnight from Sunday to Monday, according to L'Équipe.

About 50 people are said to have waited for the team on arrival, blocking access and confronting several players before they went home. Violent insults and threats were directed at the squad and the hierarchy, including president José María del Nido Carrasco.

Security staff intervened to contain tensions and prevent any physical escalation.

The incident comes amid a grim run. Sevilla are only two points above the first relegation place with eight matches remaining, and have managed just two wins in their past 15 games in all competitions.

The record seven-time Europa League winners currently have La Liga’s worst defensive record, with 50 conceded in 30 matches, the worst total after 30 games in their history.

Similar flashpoints have become frequent in Andalusia. Two months ago, comparable scenes occurred at the airport after a defeat at Mallorca, and a year ago some supporters threw fake banknotes towards the club’s president.
