Sevilla’s transfer rebuild under sporting director Antonio Cordón is gathering pace, with three arrivals secured. Patrick Mercado is confirmed, Juan Iglesias of Getafe is understood to have passed his medical, and Arouna Sangante is also incoming. As they keep scouring South America, Ekrem Konur says they are closely monitoring LAFC winger David Martínez.
Midfielder Marius Marin of Pisa remains on the agenda. Gianluca Di Marzio reports that Cordón travelled to Italy last week to move the deal forward, although doubts have arisen amid suggestions of a medial collateral ligament issue in the Romanian’s left knee. If the problem is not serious, talks are expected to continue.
The radar has also turned to domestic options. Estadio Deportivo points to Real Oviedo’s Alberto Reina, a twenty-eight-year-old midfielder valued at two million euros, whose signing could be eased if the Asturians drop to the second tier.
Konur adds that Villarreal and Real Sociedad are also tracking Martínez. His reports suggest the Venezuelan’s game fits LaLiga.
He is listed at 1.78 metres, left footed, and noted for line-breaking runs and accurate finishing, with four goals in eight matches this season. Konur has also linked previous interest from Arsenal and Ajax, and indicates LAFC could approve a sale if an offer they deem suitable arrives.
Martínez would bring the verticality Sevilla crave out wide. Any pursuit would require outmuscling Villarreal financially and matching the sporting pull of a Real Sociedad growing under Pellegrino Matarazzo.
