TORONTO – Canada earned a 3-nil win over Suriname in the second leg of their series in the quarterfinals in League A of the 2024/25 Concacaf Nations League, winning 4-nil on aggregate, on Tuesday at BMO Field in Toronto, Canada.

Canada looked to take advantage of home field to build on a 1-nil first-leg victory in Paramaribo, Suriname.

Jonathan David opened the scoring in the 23’ to give Canada the lead, firing from close range following a set piece delivery.

Jacob Shaffelburg extended the lead for the Reds in the 30’, capitalizing on a long ball over the top from Moïse Bombito.

Suriname generated some of its best chances in the dying moments of the first half.

A left-footed shot from Gleofilo Vlijter near the edge of the box was saved by Canada goalkeeper Dayne St. Clair in the 44’.

An attempt from Sheraldo Becker followed inside the penalty area in the 45’ but was blocked by Alistair Johnston. Shaffelburg secured his brace in the 67’ with a left-footed finish inside the six-yard box after a pinpoint delivery from Cyle Larin from the right flank.

Larin had an opportunity to extend the lead for the hosts in the 80’, but his finish from inside the box hit the woodwork.

Canada won the series 4-nil on aggregate and advanced to the 2025 CNL Finals and 2025 Gold Cup.

Suriname concluded its run in the 2024/25 CNL and move on to the 2025 Gold Cup Prelims.
