Sheffield United have made a new addition to their striker depth with the signing of Danny Ings, a forward with a proven pedigree in both the Premier League and Championship, as well as international recognition with England.

The 33-year-old forward brings a wealth of experience and a reputation as a natural goalscorer, having hit the net consistently particularly across spells with Burnley, Aston Villa and Southampton. His time at Turf Moor remains a career highlight. After joining Burnley from AFC Bournemouth, Ings made 87 appearances in the Championship, scoring 27 goals and contributing nine assists, per Transfermarkt.

The 2013/14 campaign was his breakout season, where his 21 league goals propelled Burnley to automatic promotion. Ings’ performances saw him scoop a clean sweep of individual accolades: PFA Fans’ Player of the Year, a place in the PFA Championship Team of the Year, and the Football League Championship Player of the Year.

That rise eventually earned him a move to Liverpool and, later, a call-up to the England senior squad.

For United, having a figure such as Ings arrive will bring both experience and quality in the final third, with Ings expected to add depth and competition to an attacking unit already containing Tyrese Campbell and Tom Cannon.

Speaking to SUTV upon signing, Ings said he was relishing the challenge:

“I am delighted. It has been a busy few days. When I spoke to the manager and he asked me to come up and spend some time with him and the group, I just thought it was a great opportunity. To be sat here now speaking to you, and the Sheffield United fans, is just fantastic.

“As soon as I spoke to the manager, I wanted to get up here and sit down face-to-face and meet everybody here. To be sat here now, and signed, it is really exciting.

“I’ve been keeping myself fit and I’ve just been waiting for the right opportunity. I thought this was a great one for me and a chance to progress my career as well.”

Tanganga Next to Arrive?

Meanwhile, in other transfer developments, reports suggest that Millwall defender Japhet Tanganga is close to being announced as the Blades’ next signing. The 26-year-old centre-back, who came through Tottenham Hotspur’s academy, has rebuilt his career in South London and played a pivotal role in Millwall’s Championship campaign last season.

Tanganga would bring a strong presence in one-vs-one duels due to his strength and athleticism. Plus, he’s capable of operating in both a back four and back three.

The Blades are next in action against Middlesbrough on Saturday afternoon, it is a fixture they’ve struggled badly in having earned just a single point in their last six trips to the Riverside.
