Sheffield United have got off to a horror start to the 2025-26 Championship season and are without a point on the board after three matches, but they have turned to the transfer market to try and re-energise the squad.

It is a start that new head coach Ruben Selles must quickly turn around if they are to have any hope of being in the conversation of promotion candidates, but the Blades are taking steps to cultivate a squad worthy of finishing in at least the top six.

After finishing third in the Championship last season, all involved at Bramall Lane would've hoped for plenty of transfer activity this summer in the hope of going one step further into the automatic spots. However, despite their being movement in the dugout, players coming in the door has been sparse.

More players are now starting to arrive though, and Selles is casting his eyes over more experienced players, as it has been reported via The Star that United have handed Danny Ings and Nathan Redmond the opportunity to train with the club, with the potential for it to turn into contracts being offered.

Nathan Redmond would "make a difference" on the right-wing for Sheffield United

Despite having repeated injury issues in recent years, Redmond's potential transfer could be good business for the Blades as Ruben Selles has been unsure of his right midfield option early on this season.

Callum O'Hare and Tom Cannon have both operated from that side, but are yet to really get going in a role that both are not accustomed to.

Redmond's last professional appearance came back at the end of April, but the ex-Southampton man is keen to revive his career that has been injury-laden, with the winger still having years ahead of him at the age of 31.

Football League World's Sheffield United fan pundit Jimmy, of the Blades Ramble YouTube channel, believes Redmond could be the man to solve their worries on the right-flank.

Jimmy told FLW, "I think we need a right-winger that can make a difference, and I think Nathan Redmond could be that.

"I know he hasn't been playing that regularly, but I think for us, and particularly as a rotation option, I think he would really offer us something.

"We have a really weak bench at the moment and we need a right-wing solution. Hopefully he can be that."

Danny Ings' signing would be more than necessary for Sheffield United

Similar to Redmond, 33-year-old Danny Ings has struggled with game time due to injuries keeping him out of the West Ham side in recent years.

However, throughout his career, the ex-England international is best known for putting the ball in the back of the net, which is just what Selles needs.

After failing to score in their previous two Championship matches, it's no secret that the Blades are crying out for a proven goalscorer.

Jimmy was quick to approve of the potential deal for Ings as a new striker would be warmly welcomed around Bramall Lane following the departure of Kieffer Moore to Wrexham.

"We also need a few more options up front," Jimmy added.

"We only play one striker, but in all honesty, Tyrese Campbell...can we trust his fitness? - I'm not entirely sure. He hasn't really looked at it yet this season.

"Tom Cannon's not really hit the ground running either, so a third striker is necessary, and again, as a rotation option, I think Danny Ings is a really solid bet.

"So yeah, I'm happy with those, and I'd advocate bringing them in."

With Redmond and Ings being looked at by United, there is clearly an urge to add to Selles' attacking options on a cheaper basis, given the fact they are set to splash the cash on Millwall centre-back Japhet Tanganga.

If the pair can rediscover their glory days when playing together for Southampton in the top flight, it would be a perfect way for Selles to win over the support of the fans - but it could go in the opposite direction given their injury and fitness history.
