Sheffield United have had a very strong winter, and their exploits in the January transfer window must be praised as they added more depth to their squad in midfield, while also retaining Gustavo Hamer.

The Blades' form has started to strengthen in recent weeks, and after an incredibly difficult start to the campaign, Chris Wilder's side have started to push towards the play-off places.

However, there is no denying that the South Yorkshire outfit have underperformed over the course of the entire season, and they must continue at their current performance level if they are to close the gap to the top six and have the opportunity of promotion to the Premier League.

Andre Brooks and Femi Seriki have been excellent for Sheffield United during this time, and now Wilder has hinted at handing the pair new deals.

The two wide players have shown their class this season, and with both of them 22-years-old, there is plenty of room for improvement and development in the future.

With it looking as though the pair could be given new deals, Football League World has asked their Sheffield United Fan Pundit, Jimmy from Blades Ramble, if this is vital to the club. He said: "Absolutely vital. The way these two are playing, they've both had breakout seasons for Sheffield United. We've always seen the potential in both, but it's how they play together as well.

"They're a really good combination down that right-hand side and probably our biggest threat at the moment in terms of a pure attacking threat. Coming through our academy, something we're really proud of. It's absolutely vital we get these boys tied down. And I'd say Gus Hamer as well."

Jimmy continued: "He's another one who was off the boil for the majority of the season, but he's starting to come back into a little bit of form as well. Those three are key to tie down to decent contracts. And yes, we'll have to do some business with outs in the summer. But if you tie them down, then obviously you improve their value as well. So it might mean just one of them has to leave rather than two or perhaps three."

Sheffield United may face competition from other clubs for their young duo in the summer

If Sheffield United do fail in their quest for a play-off finish this season, then players like Brooks and Seriki will be targeted by other clubs in the summer transfer window.

Both are out of contract at the end of the 2026/27 campaign, and therefore, the Blades will become more vulnerable to bids as time goes on.

If Wilder's side are not in a position that offers the pair their best chance of playing at the highest level, then they may just look for moves elsewhere. Therefore, it is vital that they sign new deals, as that way Sheffield United can take control of any potential negotiations.

Nevertheless, if they continue on their current run of form, then they may well just be able to help the Blades to a top six finish this season after a dismal start to the year.
