The Blades boss is looking to free up some space in his squad ahead of January with some loan terminations, including Bindon, FLW understands.

Football League World exclusively revealed that Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder intends to cancel Tyler Bindon's loan from Nottingham Forest in January.

It's getting to that time of the season where EFL bosses know who is and isn't in their plans for the future, and where their respective squads could do with strengthening in the winter transfer window.

For Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder, some of those decisions will have been made easier given the club's dismal start to the Championship season, with the 58-year-old in clear need of some fresh blood in January in order to ensure they aren't playing League One football next term.

Football League World recently exclusively revealed that the Blades gaffer is planning to open up three spots in his side come the turn of the year by terminating the loan deals of Ben Godfrey, Louie Barry and Tyler Bindon respectively.

Bindon, a 20-year-old centre-back, was signed on a season-long loan deal from Nottingham Forest by Ruben Selles, who was signed by the Premier League outfit in January from Reading, but was immediately loaned back to the Royals for the second half of last season.

So, FLW takes a look at three possible new EFL destinations for the New Zealand international in January, if Wilder does indeed cancel his loan spell at Bramall Lane...

Blackburn Rovers

Blackburn Rovers will be looking to mount a resurgent play-off push in the second half of the season, after what has been a largely frustrating and inconsistent start.

Rovers boss Valerien Ismael has tinkered with his formations this term, with the preference at the start of the campaign largely being a back four, but in more recent outings, the 50-year-old has been deploying a back three.

Regardless of whether he continues to chop and change or picks a set style and sticks with it, his side is perilously short of options at the centre-back position.

Currently, his only natural and senior central defenders are: Lewis Miller, Sean McLoughlin, Hayden Carter and Scott Wharton respectively.

However, both of these players have had significant injury issues over the last few years, and with both already spending time in the treatment room this season, it's surely impossible for Ismael to rely on them staying fit for the majority of the campaign.

As such, the addition of another centre-back looks to be a wise move in January, and should he persist with a back three, then Bindon could have an excellent chance of arriving at Ewood Park and instantly secure a starting role.

Portsmouth are hoping to further cement their status as a Championship club this season, having finished 16th in their first campaign back at the level last term.

Under the stewardship of their young and pragmatic boss John Mousinho, the 39-year-old may need to bolster his squad in January in order to ensure they aren't dragged into a relegation battle in the second half of the season.

One area of their side that has been particularly strong so far this term has been in defence, and so leaning into that and further strengthening in that department could be a very wise move in the winter window, as Pompey may need to rely on that unit to see them through this year.

Having also dabbled between a back four and back three approach this season, Mousinho could perhaps do with another body in central defence to really shore up that group.

Conor Shaughnessy has been suffering with an injury problem as of late, whilst Ibane Bowat and Hayden Matthews are both young and still adapting to Championship football.

Aside from those three, Mousinho's only other natural centre-back option comes in the shape of Josh Knight, and so should injuries and suspensions begin to have an impact, Pompey could soon find themselves having to turn to unnatural central defenders to plug gaps, and that could be very dangerous indeed.

Stockport County

Stockport County are once again looking like major players in the League One promotion race this season.

Dave Challinor's side finished third last season, and are once again competing right at the top of the table through the opening quarter of the current campaign.

As such, ensuring that they have enough strength in depth in key areas such as central defence in order to sustain an automatic promotion push this season is going to be of critical importance in the January transfer window.

However, there is perhaps a question mark regarding whether the Hatters can currently say they have that in the heart of their defence, and with Challinor routinely deploying three centre-backs from the start, the addition of another player in that position could be very handy for them indeed.

Joseph Olowu, Ethan Pye, Callum Connolly and Brad Hills are County's leading centre-back options currently, with youngster Christy Grogan a likely candidate for a loan exit in January.

Arttu Hoskonen is another centre-back on their books, but the Finland international has been through injury hell over the last year-and-a-half, and has only played a handful of games during that time period.

As such, it's unclear as to how much Stockport will be able to get out of him in his debut season, and so the addition of a proven League One performer in Bindon would massively bolster an already strong group, and would give Challinor that depth he needs in this area to hand themselves the best chance of sustaining what looks to be a very exciting season ahead.
