Chris Wilder confirmed that star striker Patrick Bamford will miss Sheffield United’s upcoming match against Middlesbrough due to an ankle injury.

Bamford has been key for Sheffield United since joining in November, scoring six goals in 13 Championship appearances.

The Blades boss said: “We lost Pat…he might be a couple or three weeks… which was a big blow to us because we can go a little bit more direct, which we’d like to have done.”

Wilder also revealed that it’s unlikely new arrival Kalvin Phillips will start for a while due to his lack of match fitness. He said: “Physically he is okay… training games and competitive games are different.”

However, Wilder said that having a player like Phillips in the squad is a huge bonus.

Joe Rothwell could be ready to feature, following his move from Rangers.
