Having started the season in dismal fashion under Ruben Selles, Chris Wilder came to the rescue once again for Sheffield United, guiding the Blades away from the relegation zone towards a mid-table finish.

Wilder was dismissed following the club's play-off final defeat to Sunderland, but was brought back after Ruben Selles' tenure proved to be a disaster, where it was made abundantly clear that the 58-year-old wasn't exactly content with the summer business conducted by his predecessor.

Patrick Bamford joined Jairo Riedewaled in making the move to Bramall Lane on free transfers outside the window, whilst each of Joe Rothwell, Ki-Jana Hoever, Leo Hjelde, and Kalvin Phillips were all brought in during the January window.

Both Ben Mee and Danny Ings are confirmed to be leaving the club this summer at the end of their current deals, freeing up a large chunk of wages, which Wilder will be hoping to reinvest in a certain Huddersfield Town winger.

According to the Daily Mail, Sheffield United are among an array of clubs tracking the signature of Huddersfield's Cameron Ashia this summer, with the winger also drawing interest from the likes of Fulham, Rangers, and Celtic.

Ashia, 21, only broke into the first team at the ACCU Stadium this campaign despite his age, after spending time in the academies of Derby County and Sunderland previously.

With three goals and three assists in 21 league games this campaign, he has caught the eye of teams in the league's above, including the Blades.

Football League World's Sheffield United fan pundit, Jimmy, has shared their thoughts on the club's link with Ashia and whether he would be a good addition to the squad.

Jimmy said: "[It's] an interesting one, because Wilder's talked about needing more experience in our side, more Championship experience, saying that we've already got enough youngsters, quality youngsters that can do a job for us, and he thinks we've missed out on that sort of nous of professional Championship players.

"Having said that, it's likely we are set to lose Gus Hamer in the summer, and even if we don't, he's been playing out on the left, and there's a lot of talk that he'll be moved inside even if he stays. So, left-wing is an area that we are really keen to strengthen.

"We're interested in Reyes Cleary, but you're talking seven figures for Reyes Cleary, whereas this is rumoured to be a lot lower. I can't claim to know an awful lot about Cameron Ashia, but from the little bits that I have seen, he looks like a really good prospect.

"At 21 years old, he's not a kid, but there's still a lot of room for growth there. And if the rumoured £500k asking price is anywhere near, then I think it seems to be a low-risk move for United. So yeah, get him in."

It's set to be a big turnover of players at Sheffield United this summer, with numerous high earners set to depart the club.

Gus Hamer has been prominently linked away, as with just 12 months remaining on his current deal, an exit seems almost certain this summer.

Hamer's departure would leave a lack of options off the left flank for Sheffield United, and something Wilder will almost certainly address, with Ashia presenting an exciting prospect.

Already in Yorkshire, the winger would not have to make a long journey to Bramall Lane if he were to make the move, and given his age and price, it's a deal that makes a lot of sense, especially from a Blades perspective.

As parachute payments run out this summer, Wilder will be on the hunt for bargains, and Ashia could be exactly that.
