Sheffield United and Oxford United will face off under the lights at Bramall Lane on Tuesday evening after their initial match was postponed back in January.
The Blades got a very hard-earned point away at Millwall on Saturday afternoon in what was a fascinating game to watch as both sides would’ve felt they did enough to win it. United now enter a mini home stretch where they can build up some real momentum.
Oxford United lost 2-0 to Birmingham City at the weekend, but before that, they went on a three-game unbeaten streak which included draws against Bristol City and Queens Park Rangers, and a victory away at Leicester City.
Chris Wilder’s side took a massive blow on Saturday when Sam McCallum left the field on a stretcher, with the United chief labeling it an ankle ligament injury. Tom Davies was later forced off. Meanwhile, the Blades are set to see the return of both Japhet Tanganga and Djibril Soumare after the pair have served their three-match suspensions.
Oxford will be without the quartet of Hidde ter Avest, Tyler Goodrham, Jamie Donley and Nik Prelec for the trip to Bramall Lane.

Callum O’Hare has had an excellent season so far, netting eight goals and making five assists, but he will feel frustrated having not added to his tally last weekend when he missed a couple of glaring chances.
That shouldn’t discourage him, and O’Hare has proven to be consistent threat even when he does not get on the scoresheet. The versatile attacking midfielder may only be above average in terms of chances created per game (1.44), it’s his ball carrying ability that is his biggest strength on the ball. His agility allows him to twist and turn on the ball, cause misdirection when defenders or midfielders come to close him down, and then he can shift the ball to runners on either side of him.
O’Hare has regularly found himself in situations where he’s made late runs inside the box, which is exactly how his chances came about against Millwall. His timing and understanding of movement is good, he averages almost five touches in the opposition box per game which is very high.
We are all aware of his excellent work rate, and despite this, he seems to be one of few players that can play consistently to a good standard even in a two-game or three-game week. O’Hare averages over five ball recoveries per game and almost 1.5 possessions won in the final third per game, and I expect the Blades to crank up the pressure at home against Oxford.
One player that can cause the Blades plenty of issues for the away team is Przemyslaw Placheta. The Polish winger possesses plenty of energy and a burst of speed which could suit the style of the game, given Oxford will likely be playing on the counter attack in a low block for most of the contest.
Placheta may only have three goals and one assist this term, but his underlying numbers are actually quite promising. He averages almost 1.5 chances created per game, and 0.3 big chances created per game.
His dribbling stats aren’t the most impressive but he still averages over one successful dribble per match, and given he will likely be lined up on the right up against Harrison Burrows, he will feel as though he will have the beating of him in a one-vs-one battle.
Sheffield United won’t be taking Oxford United lightly, but this is a game where the Blades should be winning convincingly if they want to be taken seriously in the play-off race. They’re at home against a team that is second from the bottom, and they’ve earned just 12 points on their travels all season.
The Blades can win this by a couple of goals and carry some form into the Middlesbrough game next week.
