Sheffield remains red after Sheffield United thrashed Sheffield Wednesday 3-0 at Hillsborough in the Steel City derby.
Tyrese Campbell put the Blades ahead in the first half after overlapping Callum O’Hare and firing a first time effort into the bottom right corner. A few minutes into the second half saw Campbell put the ball in the Wednesday net once again with a similar finish to his first. With Wednesday fans flooding out of the ground, Tom Cannon latched onto a loose ball and curled a long-range strike home in injury time.
Wednesday: Horvath, Palmer, M. Lowe, Fusire, Iorfa (Cooper 41), Valery, Ingelsson, J. Lowe, Bannan, Ugbo (McNeill 73), Amass.
Unused: Stretch, Otegbayo, Emery, Johnson, Alao, Thornton.
Blades: Cooper, Tanganga, McCallum, Ings (Bamford 70), O’Hare (Hamer 90), Brooks (Burrows 90), Mee, Campbell (Cannon 77), Seriki, Peck, Riedewald (Soumaré 90).
Unused: A. Davies, Bindon, McGuinness, Oné.
After an early flurry from the hosts, Sheffield United settled superbly into their rhythm and took control of another memorable derby at Hillsborough. The Blades struck first on 11 minutes, winning the ball high up the pitch before Callum O’Hare slid a perfectly weighted pass into Tyrese Campbell, who finished clinically to open the scoring.
United nearly doubled their lead just five minutes later when a misplaced pass from Iorfa gifted Danny Ings a clear sight of goal. However, Owls goalkeeper Ethan Horvath reacted sharply, racing off his line to smother the effort with his legs.
Ings did have the ball in the net before the break after a close-range finish, but the assistant’s flag cut short the celebrations.

If United’s first-half start was strong, the beginning of the second was even better. Within minutes of the restart, Campbell struck again. Sydie Peck intercepted a loose pass from debutant Liam Cooper, and Campbell made no mistake, sweeping home to make it three goals in three derby appearances.
Tempers briefly flared when Tanganga required treatment following a late challenge from Ugbo. Yet United remained composed and continued to pick Wednesday apart.
With 20 minutes left, Patrick Bamford entered for his debut in place of Ings, but Wednesday’s sloppy turnovers in their own half continued to gift United opportunities. Andre Brooks forced Horvath into action, while Tom Cannon was denied one-on-one by the impressive keeper after an exquisite ball from Bamford. Bamford himself nearly flicked home from close range as the pressure mounted.
But Cannon would not be kept out for long. As home supporters streamed toward the exits, the striker sealed the afternoon with his first goal of the season, an arrowed 25-yard strike into the bottom corner that sent the travelling Blades into raptures for a third time.
The Blades may still be in the relegation zone, but this performance and result could serve as a catalyst to kick-start their campaign after thumping their city rivals 3-0 on their own patch.
