The 30-year-old was brought to Hillsborough to step in whilst Ethan Horvath served a one-match ban against Middlesbrough, and then kept his place in between the sticks in their recent home battle with Oxford United last Saturday.

However, no extension has been confirmed, and the Owls stated on X that Bristol City's backup shot-stopper will return to Ashton Gate upon the culmination of his short-term deal.

Despite both of his games resulting in defeats, the performances he exhibited, especially on his debut against Middlesbrough, have meant that he'll be fondly remembered by Owls fans.

Things are starting to look up for Wednesday fans, who feel that they are close to finally coming out of the other side of what has been a torrid final few months of Dejphon Chansiri's reign as owner.

However, the news that Lumley will depart the club, leaving Horvath to resume his place in goal, whilst Pierce Charles continues to recover from his ongoing shoulder injury, has put a small dampener on things, as many Owls fans felt that the 30-year-old had performed better than the American 'keeper during his limited time at the club.

Given the nature of his short spell at Hillsborough, fans are seeing the bright side to the news, making light-hearted comments on his week-long stay at the club.

Comments telling Wednesday to "build a statue" and to give him a testimonial emerged, showing the funny side of the whole situation.

Ultimately, Lumley's time at the club, albeit brief, was eventful. The Owls were placed into administration in between his two games at Wednesday, and therefore, his time at the club will be well-remembered.

Not only for some of the saves he made, but also because that week coincidentally coincided with the Owls finally being freed from the shackles of Dejphon Chansiri's ownership.

For Wednesday fans, they will have to get reacquainted with the sight of seeing Ethan Horvath in goal for the time being, something which doesn't excite them too much.

The American has an unenviable task of being the man in goal in a depleted Owls side, but Horvath hasn't exactly covered himself in much glory during his short time at Hillsborough, with his needless red card against Charlton Athletic almost being the final straw for some fans.

Charles has been on the sidelines for two months now since undergoing shoulder surgery, and his return couldn't come any sooner. The young Northern Irishman was one of the few bright sparks during the opening months of the campaign, and Wednesday fans will be hoping that he can continue his solid form upon his return.
