The EFL have rejected Sheffield Wednesday's request to bring in more loan signings during the January transfer window.
Sheffield Wednesday remain the crisis club of the EFL with the Owls destined for relegation to League One, yet to find a new owner and now having to deal with yet another blow in the transfer market.
Sheffield Wednesday endured a summer of misery with Dejphon Chansiri refusing to sell the club and allowing the on-pitch and off-pitch operations to fall into disarray.
The controversial Thai businessman placed Wednesday into administration in October, which finally rid the club f the 57-year-old, albeit did result in a ten-point deduction.
Relegation was inevitable anyway, especially with the departures of so many first-team players in the summer and transfer restrictions limiting Wednesday to bringing in just Ethan Horvath and Harry Amass on loan deals from Cardiff City and Manchester United, respectively.
Their small squad has been worked to the bone in the opening couple of months of the campaign and a further six-point deduction for multiple breaches of EFL regulations in early December only made relegation even more pre-determined.
A respectable 2-2 draw with Yorkshire rivals Hull City, who are flying high in the Championship, leaves them now on -8 points down at the bottom-of-the-table in the second-tier.
That performance continued to restore some pride for Wednesday, but further bad news revealed by manager Henrik Pedersen, with regards to the upcoming January transfer window, has only further hurt the club.

In his post-match interview of the Hull game the other day, Henrik Pedersen confirmed that the EFL have rejected the Owls’ request to sign more players on loan in the January window.
Sheffield Wednesday remain under a strict transfer embargo as they continue to be blighted by ownership uncertainties and further concerns over the future of the club.
In the short-term, Wednesday will simply want to try and reach the end of this season without inflicting too much damage on what is a young and stretched squad.
Striking duo George Brown and Ike Ugbo have recently picked up hamstring injuries, while Pedersen has confirmed that both Max Lowe and Nathaniel Chalobah are now set for a spell on the sidelines.
The injury crisis meant that the only senior player to be named on the substitutes bench against Hull was goalkeeper Horvath, with Wednesday continuing to have to rely on academy players.
Signings would have helped ease some of the pressure on the squad and Pedersen is desperate to bring new players in but, for now, the EFL are refusing the club’s request.

It is believed that Sheffield Wednesday are close to experiencing that desperately needed takeover with James Bord said to be closing in on a deal to buy the club.
Bord, who is a former professional poker player and also the current co-owner of Scottish Championship side Dunfermline Athletic, who currently have Neil Lennon as their manager, has been granted preferred bidder status to buy Wednesday.
Somewhat controversially, or at least worthwhile of being noted, is the fact that Bord has been a consultant and adviser to Wednesday’s arch-rivals Sheffield United for the last year or so.
Either way, regardless of that slightly unusual development, any takeover of the club is now desperately needed or Wednesday face the prospect of having to cash in on some of their prized assets, as reported by Alan Nixon.
