Sheffield Wednesday were recently hit with a 12-point deduction after Dejphon Chansiri placed the club into administration last Friday.
The deduction leaves the club at the bottom of the Championship table on minus six points.
The Guardian now report the Owls could face further points deductions this season over breaching English Football League (EFL) regulations.
However, in a boost for the club, the administrators are hopeful of a quick sale amid interest from four or five serious bidders.
Wednesday have failed to pay wages on time for five of the past seven months.
The Championship outfit could be docked points for the non-payment of wages in March, May, June, July and September.
It is expected the penalties of points deductions would apply this season.
Wednesday are currently under five separate embargoes with the EFL over rule breaches.
They are not permitted to pay fees for players until the summer of 2027 after the club exceeded 30 days of late payments between 1 July 2024 and 30 June 2025.
Wednesday players were in action at the weekend when they lost 2-1 to Oxford United at the Hillsborough Stadium.
Their single Championship win this campaign came in September against Portsmouth.
Since then, they have suffered two draws and lost four matches in the second-tier.
Wednesday supporters will likely be happy that Chansiri’s unpopular reign has come to an end, but they face relegation to League One following points deductions.
