Sheffield Wednesday risk missing out on appointing Henrik Pedersen as their new manager, as he attracts interest from England and Europe.

The new season may feel like a long way away, but it could come around very quickly for Sheffield Wednesday, who remain dragged down by uncertainty.

When exactly will Danny Rohl leave? Who will replace the German? Will Dejphon Chansiri finally sell the club?

These are just some of the major questions that need addressing, and it’s far from ideal to have them hanging over the club going into a new campaign.

Sheffield Wednesday must make quick Henrik Pedersen decision

Of course, something like a takeover is complex, so whilst all connected to the Owls will want a breakthrough, the reality is that it will take time.

However, Wednesday do have full control over what they do when it comes to Rohl’s replacement, with the boss expected to depart - and it has been claimed that his assistant, Henrik Pedersen, is under consideration for the job.

Yet, that could be complicated by interest from elsewhere, with reports stating that he could become part of the backroom team at Brentford alongside incoming boss Keith Andrews.

At 47, and with previous managerial experience in Scandinavia, landing the top job at Hillsborough would seem like a fantastic opportunity for Pedersen.

But, if the Owls dither, then he could decide that the safest option for his career is to make a move to the Premier League alongside Andrews.

It’s not just Brentford, as it’s also said that clubs across Europe are monitoring Pedersen’s situation, which gives an insight into how highly-rated he is within the game.

Sheffield Wednesday need stability as the countdown to the new season starts

Chansiri must be aware of that, and he should recognise that he can't allow this to go unresolved for long.

With the players back in training, the club can’t afford to waste time.

We know the transfer restrictions that are in place, so the reality is that there is a lot of responsibility on these players currently at Hillsborough.

So, the club needs to ensure everyone is pulling in the same direction, and that starts at the top, with a manager in place that can utilise pre-season effectively.

It’s over the next few weeks that fitness builds, and tactical plans will be put in place, and you regularly hear managers reference just how important pre-season is. Therefore, if Pedersen is the man that Wednesday wants, he needs to be ready to go as soon as Rohl’s exit is officially announced.

If he isn’t, they’re running a huge risk as the search for the new boss will drag on, which wastes valuable time and creates more uncertainty. That’s not to say that they have to appoint Pedersen, but it’s crucial they have an alternative lined up if they aren’t keen on the Dane.

It’s fair to say Wednesday fans will have zero faith in Chansiri making the quick call that’s required, even if rival interest in Pedersen has forced his hand somewhat.

Wednesday ahead of what could be a challenging season in the Championship.
