Newcastle United‘s transfer pursuit of Joao Pedro is one to watch, as the Magpies try to land an attacking target for Eddie Howe.
Pedro has impressed on the south coast for Brighton and his performances have seen him hit the radar of some of the league’s heavyweights, including Chelsea and Liverpool.
Newcastle though recently were encouraged to step up their own efforts to sign the striker, with a real belief that they could beat off competition and take him to St James’ Park.
Now journalist Luke Edwards has signalled that the transfer pursuit is one to watch by putting a watching emoji out on X relating to the encouragement story.
Newcastle were looking at a deal for Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo and it is suggested were then put off it before the attacker signalled he wants to join Manchester United.
Now they could be making progress on signing Pedro from Brighton, which would be a real statement of intent.
With Champions League football adding at least eight extra games to the agenda, Howe knows the need for real depth in his squad.
Quality competition for Alexander Isak is required and it appears that Newcastle think Pedro fits the bill.
How much they might pay for Pedro remains to be seen, but the club have worked hard to ensure they do not go over the odds.
Newcastle did not sign the attacker they were keen to secure last summer and again came up short in the winter transfer window.
Hopes will be high that the record of missing out could be about to change, with Pedro in their sights.
Newcastle though may not rest easy until he is in the building, given their rivals in the race for his signature.
