Renato's arrival at Vasco opens a chance to reset. His first match is Thursday against Palmeiras in Brasileiro round five, 19:30 Brasília at São Januário. Vasco are bottom on one point.

According to Globo.com, six players could benefit as the new coach seeks to lift levels and has trialled a three-midfielder shape in training.

With a midfield signing this window unlikely, Tchê Tchê has an opening. Well regarded, he shone in 2025 before injury and has nine games, four starts.

Hugo Moura, who worked with Renato at Flamengo, has also been tested. After losing ground to Thiago Mendes and Cauan Barros, he has featured only six times this season.

Paulo Henrique's form has dipped since his Brazil debut and goal on his first start. Errors in 2026, including both goals in the last Brasileirão defeat to Santos, and competition from Puma Rodríguez have cost him minutes.

Matheus França was integrated at Flamengo during Renato's spell. At Vasco he has 21 appearances and no goal contributions, and with Coutinho gone and replacements scarce he may get a fresh run.

Signed at Fernando Diniz's request in late January, Brenner has one goal in eight games. He missed a semi-final penalty against Fluminense, was booed at São Januário and lost his starting place to Spinelli.

Nuno Moreira, a 2025 mainstay with 56 games and 11 goals, has dipped in 2026. He started the Carioca semi-final second leg on the bench for the first time since joining and remains valued for his versatility.
