Barcelona consider Marcus Rashford as part of their plans for next season, but they’re trying to negotiate new terms with Manchester United.

The MUFC academy product, who was chased out of Carrington by Ruben Amorim, joined the Catalan giants on loan last summer, with an option to buy for €30 million (£26m).

Barcelona negotiating new Marcus Rashford deal with Man Utd

While he hasn’t been a regular starter at Camp Nou, Rashford has been heavily involved this season, especially with Raphinha and Lamine Yamal suffering injuries. The Englishman has managed to contribute with 13 goals and as many assists, and was once again on target in the 0-2 over Getafe at the weekend.

According to Sky Sport DE journalist Florian Pellenberg, Rashford has done enough to convince Barcelona boss Hansi Flick, who wants him to stay at the club beyond the current campaign.

However, the Blaugrana aren’t willing to pay the €30 million agreed upon. Instead, the LaLiga leaders are seeking a second loan or a discount.

“Understand Barcelona are pushing for a second loan for Marcus Rashford. Talks with Manchester United are ongoing,” posted the transfer market on his X account.

“Barcelona currently do not want to trigger the €30m option to buy – ideally a second loan, otherwise they want to negotiate the fee down. In any case, Rashford should stay. Approved by Hansi Flick.”

Should Man Utd succumb to Barcelona pressure?

In recent weeks, it had been reported that Man Utd aren’t worried about a potential Rashford return in the summer, as they believe they can sell him to another buyer should Barcelona decide to waive their option, and perhaps at a higher price.

While this remains an important card to play in the negotiations with the Catalans, Rashford’s determination to stay at Barca could complicate matters for INEOS, as he might simply decide to turn down every other destination, forcing the Reds to cover his hefty salary for another year.

Although this dire scenario won’t necessarily materialise, finding a swift solution is best advised in this particular case.

With the attacker’s contract expiring in June 2028, another loan could be risky for MUFC, as they might find themselves in a similar situation a year later, and could be forced to sell on the cheap.

Therefore, a small discount might be the best solution, even though many would argue that Rashford should command a higher transfer fee. It should be noted that the Englishman’s sale would constitute a pure capital gain for MUFC, given his status as an academy product.
