Despite being overlooked by Inter Milan, Manchester United striker Rasmus Hojlund could still end up at San Siro this summer.

The Dane cost the Red Devils almost £72 million in the summer of 2023 when he made the move from Atalanta after an encouraging campaign in Bergamo under Gian Piero Gasperini.

However, the 22-year-old’s progress has seemingly stalled. Whilst his early performances at Old Trafford had been promising, his struggles in front of goal last season depicted the club’s overall crisis, as he only managed to net four times in the Premier League.

Despite losing the confidence of the OT faithful, the centre-forward remains highly-regarded in Italy. In fact, several Serie A giants have already tested the waters for Hojlund, beginning with Napoli, Juventus and Inter.

Not so long ago, the Nerazzurri embarked on talks to sign the Denmark international. However, the Champions League finalists eventually turned their attention towards other targets, signing Ange-Yoan Bonny from Parma and now trying to lure Atalanta’s Ademola Lookman. Therefore, Inter have dropped their interest in Hojlund by all accounts.

The Man Utd striker may have lost a suitor in Milano, but he gained one on the other side of the city, explains Sky Sport Italia journalist Gianluca Di Marzio.

AC Milan enquire about Hojlund

The transfer market expert reveals that the Rossoneri have enquired about the former Atalanta star, as they remain keen to sign a new marksman this summer. As the source explains, Milan only have one striker in their ranks at the moment in the shape of Santiago Gimenez, after parting ways with Tammy Abraham and Luka Jovic.

Nevertheless, it remains to be seen if the Diavolo can afford to buy Hojlund whose price tag remains relatively high, as Man Utd cannot afford to lose him for anything less than £40 million. The two clubs might have to find a creative formula, perhaps a loan with an obligation to buy under certain conditions.

Hojlund has also been recently linked with Roma who would reunite him with his former Atalanta boss, Gasperini.
