Manchester United have reportedly pinpointed Marco Carnesecchi as their preferred option to take over from Andre Onana.

After two disappointing seasons at Carrington, many Red supporters are hoping to see a change between the sticks, as they firmly believe that the team can no longer afford to leak goals caused by shaky goalkeeping.

At this stage, the Cameroonian’s future remains a topic of great debate. While some reports claim that Ruben Amorim is willing to bet on him yet again, other sources have been linking the club with several custodians, especially Aston Villa’s Emiliano Martinez.

Amorim asks Man United to replace Onana with Carnesecchi

According to Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, Amorim has identified Atalanta’s Carnesecchi as the ideal profile to replace the under-fire goalkeeper.

The Sky Sport Italia presenter confirms previous reports linking Onana to Monaco, but insists that the 29-year-old’s fate has yet to be decided.

Nevertheless, Di Marzio believes that Amorim has already asked INEOS to go after Carnesecchi if Onana ends up leaving the club.

Who is Marco Carnesecchi?

The Italian custodian is a Cesena youth product who was poached by Atalanta in 2017. After several loan spells, he was reinstated in the summer of 2023, and it didn’t take him long to claim the No.1 role, displacing his more experienced teammate, Juan Musso. Since then, the 24-year-old has been a regular starter in Bergamo.

This season, he made 44 appearances in all competitions, conceding 45 goals and registering 18 clean sheets.

Carnesecchi is tied to Atalanta with a contract valid until June 2028, and Transfermarkt estimates his market value at €25 million.

However, the stubborn La Dea often request sizable transfer fees to part ways with their key players, something that Man Utd have already experienced after enquiring about 25-year-old Brazilian midfielder, Ederson.
