Arne Slot has said Liverpool’s wins at Manchester United and Manchester City were the results that fuelled the club’s Premier League title belief.

Liverpool lifted the Premier League trophy on Sunday after concluding their title-winning campaign with a 1-1 draw against Crystal Palace. The Reds were crowned champions last month, winning the title with four games to spare after a stunning season under Slot.

The Dutchman was expected to oversee transition after replacing Jurgen Klopp last summer, but has ended his debut season in England with the Premier League title.

Asked at what point did he think Liverpool were genuine contenders, Slot told Sky Sports that two victories in Manchester stood out: “Thinking we would be part of it came early in the season after the United win.

“Before that we played good teams but to beat them 3-0 in their stadium when we expected them to be top six it was ‘Ok we can compete for the league this season’.

“Then after City away that was really a moment where I thought it was going to be difficult for other teams to end up above us.”

Slot hails special Liverpool title win

On how special the title win and celebrations are, Slot added: “It’s always special to win something, but at certain clubs maybe a little bit more. I experienced this at Feyenoord where the fans are so passionate, and it’s the same and more over here.

“I don’t think you expect anything like this. if you look at the Premier leaguer in the last few seasons it was always a race to the end, two or three teams competing to the last day. To be part of it was already nice let alone to win it.”
