Slot reveals doubt over three Liverpool stars for Sunderland clash | OneFootball

Arne Slot revealed that Joe Gomez, Alexander Isak and Florian Wirtz might not be ready to start in Liverpool’s Premier League match against Sunderland.

All three started the match against West Ham, but Gomez was the only one of the three to play the full 90 minutes. Wirtz missed the previous game against Nottingham Forest with a muscular injury, while Isak has been struggling to achieve full match fitness after missing pre-season this summer.

Slot gave a fitness update on all three players ahead of the match against Sunderland.

“I think they are not able to play three 90 minutes in a week, that’s for sure,” he said. “I will have to see how they feel today and if they are ready to start again.

“All three are able to play in all three games if they don’t get an injury.”

“Florian Wirtz had missed one or two weeks of training, so for him to already play so many minutes is a good thing.

“It was encouraging to see Florian playing that well, it was not the first time he has played well for us. And also Alexander Isak as well.

“He [Isak] told me yesterday he felt a bit of cramp coming up already, so we will see how he trains today.”

Mohammed Salah was on the bench for the win over West Ham. Slot was asked about his reaction to being dropped from the starting 11: “It’s a normal reaction from a player that is good enough to play for us [to be disappointed to miss out].

“He has been so outstanding for this club for so many years and will be for the future. He wasn’t the only one not happy that he wasn’t starting.

“The way he behaved is what you would expect from the professional he is. For Mo, he is so disciplined and knows what to do to stay fit.”
