Udinese’s Jaka Bijol and Lens’s Kevin Danso are at the top of Inter Milan’s shortlist of defensive reinforcements this summer.

This according to today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews.

Inter are currently lining up their possible transfer targets in defense.

It now looks inevitable that the Nerazzurri will sign a defender this summer. And this is for a couple reasons.

Firstly, the long-term injury to Tajon Buchanan means that Inter will aim to use Carlos Augusto exclusively or primarily as a wingback next season.

That is a blow to Inter’s defensive depth. The versatile Brazilian played an important role filling in on the left of the back three last season.

Moreover, there is also the possibility that 32-year-old Dutch international de Vrij could be heading for the exit door this summer.

Reportedly, Stefano Pioli wants to bring the Inter defender to Al-Ittihad this summer.

And the Corriere report that Inter would consider offers for the Dutchman. They would be willing to sell him for a fee of €10-12 million.

In that case, that would be a key factor in Inter’s strategy for signing a defender.

Inter would aim to sign a player with a similar profile to de Vrij this summer if the Dutchman leaves.

The former Lazio defender is a tall, physically strong defender with good man-marking skills, capable of marshalling the penalty area at the centre of a back three.

And Udinese defender Jaka Bijol is a player who has certainly shown himself capable of doing that.

The 25-year-old had a standout EURO 2024 with Slovenia. He adeptly marked high-profile strikers such as Harry Kane and Cristiano Ronaldo.

The Corriere report that Inter are considering a move for Bijol, as are Bologna.

Another player who had an eye-catching Euros was Lens and Austria defender Danso.

Like Bijol, the Austrian has shown that he can play in a back three at club level.

In Danso’s case, the Corriere report, Lens would want a fee of around €30 million to let the 25-year-old leave.
