Severe winter weather across Germany has placed parts of the Bundesliga restart in doubt this weekend, with heavy snow and strong winds forecast in the next 24 hours as the league returns from a three-week winter break.

According to DPA, the German Football League currently expects all nine top-flight fixtures to be played, while continuing to monitor conditions as the weekend approaches. A league spokesman said it is alarmed, yet for now every match remains on the schedule.

The north and east are expected to be hit hardest, putting St. Pauli vs. RB Leipzig, Werder Bremen vs. Hoffenheim and Union Berlin vs. Mainz under particular scrutiny.

St. Pauli said on Thursday that, given the weather, it cannot guarantee the Leipzig game will proceed as planned, DPA reported.

Union Berlin supporters have been volunteering to clear snow before the Mainz match. Spokesman Christian Arbeit told Bild on Thursday that the game would be playable if it were today, adding that fans and staff are working around the clock in the hope their efforts succeed.
