Sol Campbell says Arsenal have to “gamble” in their Premier League title showdown against Manchester City.

Arsenal welcome Man City to the Emirates Stadium on Sunday knowing victory will open up a six-point gap over Pep Guardiola’s side at this very early stage of the season.

The Gunners will go into the game on the back of successive wins over Nottingham Forest and Athletic Club, with Mikel Arteta’s side bouncing back from defeat to Liverpool before the international break.

Nevertheless, Campbell - who won two Premier League titles at Arsenal - has urged his former club to lay down a marker in this season’s battle by beating Man City.

Speaking on behalf of Paddy Power, Campbell said: "There's a moment when you have to gamble, there's a moment where you have to just let go and then you've got to find the right time to let go.

“And I feel that's hopefully they've learned from the Liverpool game where a little bit handbrake on and so.

“You can’t play safe all the time if you want to win something. I always say fortune favours the brave.

“Arsenal can lay a marker down in this match and they have to take the handbrake off a little to make it happen."

Fellow Gunners legend Thierry Henry also believes his former club can’t take a conservative approach into the Man City game.

“I’m just saying, if you want to win the league, you have to go and get it,” he said CBS Sports following Arsenal’s 2-0 Champions League win over Athletic Club.

“When you play for the title you need to go and get it. Not playing not to lose games. If you want to beat Liverpool or Man City, you’ve got to go and get it, you cannot enter a game with, ‘let’s not lose it’.

“If you want to win the league, in my time, you had to get Man United, you cannot just go and say, ‘let’s see if we can draw this one’.”
