Spurs striker Dominic Solanke says he is relishing the chance to try to help lift Tottenham up the Premier League table after scoring his first goal of the season on Tuesday.

Sokanke returned this month having been out since August with an ankle injury, and scored his first goal of the campaign in the 2-0 Champions League win over Borussia Dortmund.

“I think it wasn’t the cleanest of goals, but I got to see it going in slow motion, which was nice,” Solanke said on his goal. “But I’m obviously so happy to be back playing for a start since last season, so that was a great feeling.

“To get the win was the most important thing, we needed it, so hopefully we can build on that.

“It’s been probably one of the hardest moments of my life, because it has been quite complicated, so it has been really tough, but I’m just happy to be back now and hopefully I can stay fit for the rest of the season.

“It got to a point where I just didn’t quite know when I was going to be back, because obviously it’s nice to have that clarity when you’re going to be back, and I didn’t quite have that, so that was probably the hardest part, but like I said, I’m just happy to be back now.”

Despite their strong Champions League campaign, with Spurs currently sitting fourth in the league standings with one game to go, they have struggled in the Premier League, sitting 14th after 22 games played.

And Solanke says he is desperate to help his side climb up the league.

“Yeah, it’s been on my mind the whole time I’ve been injured really,” he said.

“Obviously, we’re in together every day, I come to watch the games and stuff, so it’s difficult when you don’t have the chance to help and make an impact, so that’s one of the hardest parts of being injured, but it’s part of football at the end of the day, and I hope I stay fit for the rest of the season.

“I think I’m probably one of the more experienced players in the team now, so that’s something I need to bring to the team, we’ve got a young squad, so I need to use my experience to help them.

“We know it’s not right, we need to be better in the league, but I think these things are important when we go on these cup runs, it gives us that extra belief, and I think you saw tonight the performance we put in, I think it was great to have the crowd there supporting us as well, so I think we can use this as a catalyst to kick on and improve in the league as well.”
