Pep Guardiola says he has had the feeling “from day one” that Rayan Cherki can be a match winner for Manchester City.

Cherki scored a late winner for City as they beat Nottingham Forest 2-1 at the City Ground, following Omari Hutchinson’s equaliser after Tijjani Reijnders’ opener.

“Always, when we sign a player, we expect the best, it’s true,” Guardiola said on Cherki.

“But the reality, make an incredible assist, make the winning goal, always, with Rayan, I have that feeling from day one. 

“Some moments I shout him and some moments I want to kiss him. So, I have that ambivalent feeling with him. But I have to allow him to express his incredible talent.”

Guardiola also hailed his side’s efforts in what he labelled a huge victory.

“I know the memory is weak, but when we won one of the six Premier Leagues, these type of games helps a lot,” he said.

“So, there are three points, but this is a massive three points. Mainly for the quality of the opponent.”
