South Africa’s CHAN Journey Gains Momentum After Tight Victory
South Africa kept their African Nations Championship CHAN dream alive with 2 - 1 victory over Guinea on Monday at Mandela National Stadium in Kampala climbing to 2nd in Group C with one match left.
Bafana Bafana struck first in the 10 minute. Thabiso Kutumela linked up neatly with Neo Maema who calmly slotted left footed shot into the bottom corner for his first goal of the tournament.
Guinea responded in the 37 minute when Mohamed Bangoura I’s clever pass found Moise Camara who finished clinically past goalkeeper Samukelo Xulu to level the score.
Just 9 minute into the second half, Wayde Jooste delivered perfect cross from the right to find Kutumela unmarked. The forward made no mistake guiding his shot into the bottom right corner to restore South Africa’s lead.
Guinea pushed hard for equaliser with Mohamed Diabate & Mohamed Bangoura II both going close but Xulu stood firm. A late header from Cheick Camara sailed over the bar sealing the points for South Africa.
