South Winners, an influential Olympique de Marseille supporters’ group, has urged voters to block the Rassemblement National in the city’s municipal run-off on Sunday.

According to L'Équipe, the group issued a statement on Wednesday evening telling OM fans, and by extension all Marseille voters, to cast their ballots before heading to the stadium.

Incumbent Benoît Payan, who led the first round on 36.70%, will face RN candidate Franck Allisio on 35.02% and Martine Vassal on 12.41% in Sunday’s vote.

The South Winners, still led by Rachid Zeroual, set out their stance four days before the second round. La France Insoumise candidate Sébastien Delogu announced his withdrawal on Tuesday, saying it was to prevent Marseille falling into RN hands.

In their message, they described Marseille as a welcoming city where everyday coexistence thrives, and said the mix of cultures, religions and social classes must not be questioned. They argued the RN’s programme does not fit the city and rejected any policy of selective sorting for Marseille.
