Southampton legend Maya Yoshida posted a picture of himself at St Marys Stadium, five years after leaving the club. Once a Saint, always a Saint.
Southampton have an excellent catalogue of club legends. There are those who are glaringly obvious such as Matt Le Tissier but there are also those players whose legacies were realised only after they left the club.
Fitting within this calibre of unsung heroes, Maya Yoshida is at the top of the pile. After spending eight years and making 154 Premier League appearances for the Saints, he can certainly be considered a club legend.
Recently, Maya Yoshida became an MLS Cup and MLS Western Conference champion with his club, the Los Angeles Galaxy. In LA, Yoshida is well respected and applauded for his brilliant energy levels. To Southampton fans, this definitely rings a bell.
Maya Yoshida is currently experiencing a break in the MLS season. It is not due to return until the end of February, so the centre-back has used this time to catch up on some of his former playing eras.
Posting to X (formerly Twitter), Maya Yoshida posted a picture of him standing next to the field of St Marys Stadium. The caption was filled with red and white hearts, showing that he still holds a place for Southampton within his heart.

Understandably, the comments were filled with emotional support for Yoshida. Some comments included "welcome home" and "forever a Saint."
This is certainly the stance which every Southampton fan will hold for Yoshida. He was an excellent centre back for Southampton and very rarely did he put a foot wrong. On the off-chance he did, he always fought 10x harder to make amends for it. This is all the Saints can ask of their players.
