It has been confirmed, Southampton keeper Gavin Bazunu joins Standard Liege on loan. Following a deadline-day move, Bazunu is now one of the names alongside prodigies Amo-Ameyaw and Ballard on loan.
At times, Football feels truly unjust. If this statement feels debatable, then think, how an injury feels enough to derail the prospering career of some rising stars.
One such live example has been Southampton keeper Gavin Bazunu.
Being between the sticks consistently during the 2023/24 season, Bazunu looked destined to be the club's number 1 onwards. But, an Achilles injury changed his fate forever.
To the extent that now Bazunu feels nowhere close to the first team dynamics anymore.
In such a situation, a loan departure seemed the best for Bazunu, who stood unregistered with the Premier League.
Thankfully, with mere hours left in the winter transfer window, the Saints found a suitor for him. Southampton's official website confirmed the move, saying: "Bazunu will now link up with the Belgian Pro League outfit who currently sit seventh in the table, where we look forward to monitoring his progress for the rest of the campaign."
Surely, a loan departure currently feels on hard terms for Bazunu, who did nothing wrong to lose a spot. Still, it might serve as the best opportunity for a comeback as well.
Recently, in order to get his game rhythm back, Bazunu started in three consecutive U21 games. And would you believe, the Irish prodigy stood excellent in all of them?
Touchwood, but if Bazunu continues the same way, a Saints callback wouldn't be far. Given Southampton's promise to monitor the keeper's progress, Bazunu's performances won't go unnoticed.
Previously, been the Saints keeper for around 2 seasons, he has the potential to succeed Aaron Ramsdale at the club. Now, all that is wanted is his behind-the-scenes input translates to consistent on-the-pitch performances.
Fingers crossed that this exit brings the best of Bazunu, and he bounces back to reclaim the gloves at Southampton.
