Saints head coach Tonda Eckert has cooled talk of signing a goalkeeper before Saturday's meeting with Coventry. According to Daily Echo, he addressed the speculation with the January window opening in two weeks.
Reports elsewhere have linked Southampton with Sunderland's Anthony Patterson and Bayern Munich's Daniel Peretz. Gavin Bazunu and Alex McCarthy have alternated this season, with Bazunu currently in goal amid criticism from some supporters.
Eckert said he is very happy with the squad and views transfer rumours as routine across positions. He added that squad discussions are continuous.
He pointed to an interview by Johannes Spors indicating they do not plan to move heavily in January, while noting the club will remain alert throughout the season.
Suggestions to recall Aaron Ramsdale from Newcastle United are not realistic for several reasons, including wages and the willingness of Newcastle and Ramsdale, who agreed a year-long loan. Newcastle reportedly paid a £four million fee and the 27-year-old has started the last five matches in the Premier League and Champions League.
He said: "Aaron Ramsdale hasn't been a topic for me." "For me, the whole week was about playing against Coventry."
