Southampton have boldly attached a £100m negotiating point to entertain any Tyler Dibling inquiries.

It's been hardly a day since Southampton came to know about Napoli's admiration for Yukinari Sugawara. If these links emerged last year, it wouldn't have been surprising because the right-back was winning plenty of applause in the Dutch league.

Yet, here the Saints are rightfully confused about Sugawara's unaffected valuation when he has been a weak link in the Southampton defence. This scenario in itself portrays the scarcity of decent alternatives in the current transfer markets.

So, this is a lucrative selling opportunity for the Saints, right? After all, they have their prized asset Tyler Dibling who carries the club's hopes of securing a jackpot transfer fee on his shoulders.

And thanks to his versatile wide attacker profile, prestigious clubs like Bayern Munich are taking notice in him despite not putting better attacking figures. Now, Southampton has further doubled down on this advantage by lifting Dibling's asking price to nearly twice within the span of two months.

Previously, the desire was to fetch £55m and now The Telegraph reports that the Saints do not wish to settle for anything less than a nine-figure fee.

Southampton's intriguing move could very well flop quickly

Now, placing a £100m signing barrier on a U19 international isn't common in top European leagues. Speaking precisely, it may be the first instance in club football's history if Southampton does tempt some interested parties to part ways with that mammoth cash for Dibling.

As joyous it sounds, this decision could become Southampton's biggest transfer blooper if their dreams don't go as planned. Currently, there is a wealth of promising teenagers in every playing position and some of them can make those elite clubs prefer them as a cost-effective alternative instead.

If that were to happen, Southampton will be left with no other choice than to find a way for Dibling to score a plethora of goals to reduce their regret of missing out on a sizeable transfer fund.
