Inter are now at the finish line kn their pursuit of Martinez.

The Nerazzurri’s chase of the former RB Leipzig keeper has been ongoing since last month.

Inter have identified Martinez as a long-term heir to Yann Sommer in goal. Their plan is to have the 26-year-old back up Sommer next season – and then inherit the starting spot in the long term.

Martinez is not the only keeper who Inter had considered as a possible target.

The Nerazzurri had initially been looking to sign Athletico Paranaense’s Bento.

Inter also eyed up Udinese’s Maduka Okoye and Lazio’s Christos Mandas from within Serie A. And Villarreal keeper Filip Jorgensen is another player whose agent they contact.

But it is Martinez who Inter will be signing this summer.

Josep Martinez To Undergo Inter Milan Medicals Tomorrow

Inter and Genoa negotiated for Martinez’s transfer over the last couple weeks of July.

Initially, the two clubs had reportedly discussed the possibility of a cash-plus-player deal.

But in the end, the Nerazzurri and the Grifone changed tracks to agree a straight cash fee. Inter will reportedly pay Genoa a fee in the region of €15 million for Martinez including add-ons.

Meanwhile, Inter also have an agreement with Martinez in place.

The Spanish international will reportedly sign a five-year contract with Inter until the end of June 2029. This will be worth around €1.5 million net per season.

So it has not been any secret that Martinez will be joining Inter.

But tomorrow, the Spaniard will get his medicals out of way.

Then, Martinez can put pen to paper and become part of Inter’s squad ahead of their preseason training camp.
