Sporting CP ‘to rival’ Tottenham for Bayern's Joao Palhinha

A Bola reports that Sporting CP are rivalling Tottenham Hotspur for the signing of Bayern Munich midfielder Joao Palhinha.

Palhinha impressed on loan at Spurs and has expressed a desire to stay, with the London club holding a €30 million purchase option.

Sporting want to bring the 30-year-old back to Lisbon, where he began his career. The midfielder is willing to take a significant pay cut to rejoin his boyhood club, and a broad understanding with the player is said to be in place.

Talks between Sporting and Bayern are understood to be under way, though striking a deal could be difficult. Bayern are keen to recover as much as possible of the €50 million they paid Fulham two years ago.

Sporting would prefer a loan with an option to buy. It is doubtful Bayern would approve another temporary move for Palhinha.
