Andy Robertson will be leaving Liverpool at the end of the season

Hull City are still in contention for promotion to the Premier League despite their 2-1 loss to Sheffield United on Saturday.

Oli McBurnie had given the Tigers an early lead in the fifth minute, but John Lundstram’s red card in the final quarter of an hour sparked the beginning of a comeback for Chris Wilder’s side.

Goals from Gus Hamer and Danny Ings sealed all three points for the hosts at Bramall Lane, which led to Sergej Jakirovic’s side falling down the Championship table.

But the Yorkshire outfit still have a four point cushion on seventh place Wrexham with just four games to go.

Hull haven’t competed in the Premier League since their relegation in 2017, and their last top six finish at this level came when they earned promotion in 2016.

A place in the play-offs could see the club return to the top flight for the first time in nearly a decade after they narrowly missed out on the top six two years ago.

Hull City keep tabs on Andy Robertson

It has been reported by Teamtalk that Hull are keeping tabs on the situation involving Andy Robertson ahead of the summer market.

The full-back’s future at Liverpool is up in the air, and the Tigers are considering an approach to bring him back to the club, provided they win promotion to the Premier League.

It is believed that the defender has interest from a number of teams, including Tottenham Hotspur and Celtic.

Hull are also interested in the Scotland international, but they will only push forward with his potential signature if they can win their place in the top flight.

It has previously been reported that Spurs are the front-runners to win the 32-year-old’s signature, but it is on the basis that they remain in the Premier League themselves.

Roberto de Zerbi oversaw a 1-0 loss to Sunderland on Sunday in his first game in charge as manager, which has left the team 18th in the table and two points adrift of safety.

Robertson is out of contract at Anfield this summer, and will be available as a free agent.

The defender has made 20 appearances in the Premier League so far this season, including seven starts, with Liverpool fifth in the table.

The left-back spent three seasons at Hull prior to joining Liverpool in 2017 in a deal worth a reported £10 million.

Andy Robertson return would be welcome at Hull

Robertson was a key part of the Hull team that won promotion through the play-offs in 2016, and he became a club legend during his time at Liverpool.

There’s no doubt his return would be most welcome by Tigers fans, particularly if it’s ahead of a return to the Premier League as well.

It would be an exciting signing, even if he is past his best these days, as he can still contribute at a top flight level.

Given he’d be a free agent, the only concern would be the ability to pay his wages, but it would be a real coup if they could pull off this kind of signing, if they win promotion.
