Thomas Frank is not wasting time. With Spurs entering a new chapter under the Dane, their pursuit of Crystal Palace playmaker Eberechi Eze marks more than just a statement signing, suggest reports from The Standard. It represents a change in ambition, profile and attacking identity.
Eze, who netted in the FA Cup final to help Palace claim their first major trophy in history, now finds himself at the heart of a transfer tug-of-war. The 26-year-old dazzled as Palace shocked Manchester City at Wembley, and with a £68 million release clause written into his contract, Spurs see an opportunity.

“It makes Eze’s release clause all the more enticing for Spurs as they look towards life without talismanic forward Heung Min-Son, who has one year left on his current deal,” the article notes. With uncertainty over Son’s future and Richarlison’s ongoing fitness issues, creativity is no longer a luxury, but a necessity.
Eze recorded 14 goals and 11 assists across all competitions last season, including a remarkable scoring streak through the FA Cup quarter-final, semi-final and final. Five league goals in his final five games, including a brace against Spurs, reinforced his pedigree.
Spurs’ need for attacking reinforcements is clear. Brennan Johnson, with just 11 Premier League goals, was their top scorer last term. While Johnson’s Europa League-winning campaign was admirable, he cannot shoulder the burden alone. Injuries disrupted Dominic Solanke’s debut campaign, and while there is hope he will rediscover his rhythm, Spurs fans demand more than hope.
Frank’s previous success in reviving Mikkel Damsgaard’s form at Brentford will offer optimism. “Frank was the beneficiary of Mikkel Damsgaard’s renaissance last season,” the report adds, a reminder that he knows how to nurture flair players. With Eze capable of playing wide or centrally, he fits perfectly into a Spurs squad yearning for invention and purpose.
Youth prospects like Mikey Moore and Mathys Tel are exciting, but unproven at the top level. Eze offers Premier League pedigree and a fearlessness that was often absent from Spurs’ play in the final third last season.
Eze is not Spurs’ only target. Antoine Semenyo and Bryan Mbeumo are both being monitored. However, Bournemouth have reportedly quoted £70 million for Semenyo, while Brentford’s Mbeumo is said to favour a move to Manchester United, who have already had a £60 million bid turned down.
With those paths looking less promising, Eze’s release clause offers clarity in an otherwise murky market. It’s a defined fee, for a proven Premier League star, at the peak of his powers.
Tottenham looked at Eze last summer but never submitted a firm bid, Palace chairman Steve Parish revealed. “They now, however, look set to return for the England international,” according to the report, with Frank “keen to make a statement of intent.”
Frank’s arrival from Brentford brings tactical evolution, but also the responsibility of overseeing a transitional phase. If Son does depart in 2025, Spurs will need not just replacements, but leaders. Eze, who orchestrated Palace’s historic triumph, is no stranger to delivering on the biggest stage.
Tottenham, who have long admired the former QPR man, will also be aware of the potential competition. Palace’s European fate remains undecided despite the FA Cup win, and that uncertainty could be pivotal. The allure of Champions League football with Spurs, combined with Frank’s vision, might tip the balance.
As Spurs plot a new era, Eze’s name is at the forefront. Creative, versatile, homegrown and experienced, he could be the heartbeat of Frank’s Tottenham. All it takes is a signature and £68 million.
This report is exactly the kind of thing we’ve been crying out for. Too long we’ve settled for nearly-men and maybes. Eze isn’t just talent, he’s box office. Scoring in the FA Cup final, dominating games late in the season and putting in a brace against us? We’ve seen the damage he can do firsthand.
The price? Honestly, in today’s market £68 million feels like a steal. Especially when you consider Bournemouth want £70 million for Semenyo, and Mbeumo might be on his way to Old Trafford. Why waste time chasing shadows when Eze is there, ready, proven and available?
Frank knows what he’s doing. If we start building around players like Eze instead of hoping academy lads step up too soon, we could finally go from nearly top four to solid contenders. No more excuses. With Johnson’s pace, Solanke’s physicality, and Eze pulling the strings? That’s a front three worth watching.
The time for potential is over. Get Eze in, and let’s build something that lasts.
