Tottenham Hotspur fans are set to protest against the club’s ownership once again ahead of the game against Southampton on Sunday.

Chairman Daniel Levy faced protests before the Manchester United game on 16 February, but despite announcements of frozen ticket prices and the reinstating of discounts for concessions, fans are still demanding further change in the hope the club will improve on the pitch.

One supporter at the last protest said that they want “change at this great club”.

“This club was a great club in the 50’s, 60’s, 70’s and 80’s where we were challenging for trophies, where we hope to be again one day but it won’t be under this ownership,” they added.

When asked why they were protesting one fan said: “One man and one man only – Daniel Levy.

“I just think the fans have had enough of it now.”

Levy recently defended the club’s spending and strategy when Tottenham announced their latest financial results, however. The results showed losses fell from £86.8m to £26.2m despite a four percent decrease in revenue to £528.2m.

“Since opening our new stadium in April 2019, we have invested over £700m net in player acquisitions,£ he said. “Recruitment remains a key focus, and we must ensure we make smart purchases within our financial means.

“I often read calls for us to spend more, given we are ranked as the ninth-richest club in the world. However, a closer examination of today’s financial figures reveals that such spending must be sustainable in the long term and within our operating revenues. Our capacity to generate recurring revenues determines our spending power.

“We cannot spend what we do not have and we will not compromise the financial stability of this club – indeed, our off-pitch revenues have significantly supplemented the lower football revenues this year, testament to our diversified income strategy.”
