Tottenham Hotspur have begun internal discussions aimed at securing Pedro Porro’s long-term future, amid growing awareness that Manchester City are monitoring the situation closely. While no formal bid has been lodged, sources with knowledge of the talks indicate that Spurs are keen to act decisively to remove uncertainty around one of their most influential performers.
Porro remains under contract until 2028, but Tottenham’s hierarchy believe the timing is right to address his status. The Spain international has become integral to the side since arriving from Sporting in January 2023, developing into one of the Premier League’s most productive attacking full-backs. His consistency, durability and tactical intelligence have elevated his standing both internally and externally, inevitably attracting attention from elite clubs.
Spurs’ stance is clear. They want Porro tied down on improved terms and are prepared to accelerate discussions well ahead of schedule to reflect his importance and market value.

Since settling in north London, Porro has grown into a defining figure within Tottenham’s tactical structure. Comfortable operating high and wide, or stepping into midfield zones, he has offered penetration, creativity and relentless energy down the right flank. Even amid periods of team inconsistency, his individual output has remained largely dependable.
This season has brought greater rotation following squad adjustments, yet Porro’s status has not diminished. He continues to start the majority of high-profile fixtures, trusted for his decision-making in possession and his ability to stretch opponents. Tottenham’s coaching staff regard him as a reference point for how they want the side to function in transition and sustained attacks.
Financially, his current deal places him below the club’s top earners, despite his prominence. He earns under £100,000 per week, a figure that no longer aligns with his contribution or standing in the market. Spurs are conscious that delaying talks could leave space for rival interest to intensify.
Manchester City’s awareness of Porro is neither new nor coincidental. His formative years were spent within the City Football Group network, initially with Girona before a permanent move to City in 2019. Opportunities at the Etihad proved limited, largely due to established senior options at the time, and his subsequent loans paved the way for his eventual rise elsewhere.
Those who worked closely with Porro during that period remain admirers, particularly given his technical profile and tactical adaptability. City are expected to explore right-back options in the coming seasons and Porro’s name continues to feature in internal discussions, alongside other Premier League-based candidates.
While any potential move is viewed as a medium-term consideration rather than an immediate priority, Tottenham are fully aware that City’s interest could crystallise quickly if contractual ambiguity persists.
Tottenham’s approach is proactive rather than reactive. By engaging Porro’s representatives early, they aim to reaffirm his value to the project and protect themselves against future leverage from interested parties. A revised contract would include a significant salary increase and reflect his standing as a cornerstone of the squad.
Those close to the player suggest he is settled in London and content with his role, having previously spoken candidly about his time at City as an important learning experience rather than a missed opportunity. Stability, regular football and trust have been central to his development, all of which he currently enjoys at Spurs.
Nevertheless, Tottenham recognise that performance levels of this calibre inevitably draw attention. Their objective now is to remove doubt, send a clear signal to competitors and secure continuity at a time when long-term planning is a priority.
The coming months are likely to be decisive. With Spurs determined to keep Porro and Man City maintaining a watching brief, contractual clarity could prove the most effective defence.
