Striker underwent ankle surgery in autumn but return could affect club’s approach to January transfer window
Thomas Frank has revealed that Dominic Solanke could return from injury by the end of the month after the Tottenham striker was pictured in training this week.
Solanke has been out since August with a recurring ankle injury and was absent from Spurs' squad as they were held to a 0-0 draw at Brentford on Thursday evening.
The 28-year-old was pictured training with the first team in a video posted on Spurs' social media channels this week, and speaking in his post-match press conference at the Gtech Community Stadium, Frank admitted there was a possibility Solanke could be available for selection in January.
"Yes (he was pictured in training), so that is positive, no doubt about that. He is out there on the pitch and part-trained with the group," said Frank.
"It feels like there could be a possibility for that (a return to fitness in January), yes."
Spurs struggled to turn the game in their favour against Brentford, managing just two shots on target.
Without Brennan Johnson, who is closing in on a move to Crystal Palace, Spurs looked short of options in attack and Frank reiterated that the club would be active during the January transfer window.
“I think as far as Lucas (Bergvall) and Xavi (Simons) are hopefully soon back with the team that are attacking options. So that's some element,” Frank continued.
“Hopefully Solanke at one stage also will come back and help the team and then that should be fine.
“As I said, we are in the market and we are looking for everything we can to see if we can improve the squad. But it's a difficult general window and we need to be calm and take the right decisions.”
