Michael Olise caused a stir in the away game against St. Pauli, and not just in sporting terms. After his substitution, the Bayern star reacted to an unsightly fan action with remarkable composure
FC Bayern Munich’s performance at FC St. Pauli was a complete sporting success. They beat the Hanseatic city 5:0 and were thus ready for the second leg of the Champions League quarter-final against Real Madrid. But the game also provided plenty to talk about off the pitch. The focus was once again on Michael Olise, who not only shone with a goal in the clear away win, but also with a scene that impressively demonstrated his coolness
When the Frenchman was substituted after just under an hour with the score at 3-0, he was accompanied by loud whistles from the home fans on his way to the touchline. But it wasn’t just verbal expressions of displeasure. While Olise leisurely walked off the pitch and was already high-fiving his team-mates, a spectator threw a small yellow object in his direction – presumably a lighter
The attacking player reacted with lightning speed, skilfully dodging the throw – and countered the action in his own unique way. He acknowledged the failed throw attempt with a demonstratively raised thumb and showed no emotion whatsoever
Despite the unpleasant fan action, Olise had no reason to be in a bad mood this evening. After all, he scored his remarkable goal shortly before his substitution to make it 3-0. After Karol Mets lost the ball, the Bayern star switched at lightning speed, shot from around 20 metres and scored precisely into the left corner
His subsequent goal celebration could possibly have been the reason why some FC St. Pauli supporters felt provoked by him. With one hand to his ear, he provocatively called on the fans in the stadium to be louder – a provocative gesture towards the opposing supporters.
