Jean-Pierre Caillot has been elected president of the Ligue two college, L'Équipe reports, as Stade de Reims prepare for a second successive season in Ligue two.
The Reims president, who has no intention of stepping back, stood against Laurent Lairy of Stade Lavallois. He now devotes himself entirely to the Champagne club and is close to Vincent Labrune.
Caillot thanked the Ligue two BKT presidents for their trust and said the result both honours and obliges him. He called service within professional football’s bodies an important responsibility and pledged energy, plus the experience of his 24 years at Reims and earlier roles.
Club presidents met on Monday at LFP headquarters, where he appears to have won over a group that often challenges Ligue one’s dominance in the bodies. The ballot was emphatic, with 12 votes for Caillot, five for Lairy and one abstention.
Caillot returns to a position he previously held for many years, and he has also chaired the Ligue one college. He succeeds Bernard Joannin of Amiens, Ligue three, who resigned at the end of last season.
