Standard Liege are eyeing a move for Burnley’s Beninese international forward Andreas Hountondji, Sudinfo reports. The 22-year-old French-born striker joined the Lancashire club last summer after impressing on loan at Rodez from Caen in 2023-24, yet has been starved for game time in recent months.
The Reds have been targeting a big striker and Hountondji fits their profile as they hope to add to to support the existing Ayensa-Zeqiri striking duo.
Through his connections in England, Director of Football Fergal Harkin laid the groundwork a short while ago. Negotiations are believed to already be well underway to the point that Sudinfo have been told that the mainland club hopes to finalise the loan-to-buy move at the beginning of this week.
Standard are not the only outfit on the case, however, as both Antwerp and Kortrijk are also alleged to be interested in a loan deal. These two clubs are reportedly happier to take on more of the player’s wage yet Burnley would prefer Standard as the player’s destination.
Although Hountondji’s move arrives as an intriguing one, he might not be the only Burnley player to land on the banks of the Meuse. According to further Sudinfo reports, Standard are monitoring the status of former Anderlecht centre-back Hannes Delcroix.
Although often injured and sidelined, the Haiti-born former Belgian youth international still has 18 months on his contract at Turf Moor. In their search for a central defender, the Rouches could be tempted to overlook previous colours.
