Arsenal are leading the race to sign Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyokeres but are likely to face competition from Paris Saint-Germain, according to Record.

The Sweden international has had a fantastic debut campaign with Sporting, registering 41 goals and 15 assists in 47 appearances.

The Gunners are ‘very impressed‘ by his progress at the Portuguese outfit, but they may need to trigger his €100 million buy-out clause to secure a transfer.

Record (page 3) claim Arsenal are ‘standing out’ in the pursuit, but they may need to be wary of the ‘serious interest’ from Les Parisiens.

PSG are braced to lose Kylian Mbappe on a free transfer and have their sights set on signing Gyokeres as their marquee striker ahead of Victor Osimhen. The latter is their ‘Plan B’.

Arsenal need to speed up pursuit of Gyokeres

PSG had a huge spending spree during last summer’s transfer window. They beat Chelsea to the signing of Manuel Ugarte from Sporting by offering a better financial package.

They are more than capable of doing so with Gyokeres, but the Swede could give priority to the sporting project at the current stage of his career.

Gyokeres is currently on only £40,000 per week at Sporting. He could have easily earned double if he chose to join a Premier League club from Coventry City last summer.

Arsenal should still speed up their pursuit of Gyokeres, considering there could be interest from several other elite European clubs ahead of the upcoming transfer window.

Gyokeres would be a perfect striker signing for Arsenal with his all-round attributes. He can provide goals and assists and also has the ability to link up play from deeper attacking positions.

He also works hard off the ball which is one of the main requirements of manager Mikel Arteta. Arsenal could make a move for Gyokeres as soon as the season ends.
