Saud Abdulhamid struck in the 44th minute with a right-footed finish into the bottom left, setting Lens on course for a 3-0 win over Metz.
The wing-back timed his run onto Abdallah Sima's pass and guided the ball in from the centre of the box, a measured finish that broke a tight game open and tilted the afternoon towards Lens.
After the restart he kept carrying threat and territory, drawing fouls and winning an attacking free kick (69.) as Metz struggled to contain his forward surges down the right.
Abdulhamid's influence showed in the numbers: two attempts, two accurate crosses from three, and 27 of 31 passes completed, including five into the final third. He also won possession three times and made an interception, blending end product with control.
With space to advance on the right and licence to join attacks, his positioning repeatedly stretched Metz's back line and ensured Lens sustained pressure in the key phases.
Lens remain second in Ligue 1 and visit Lorient next. Metz stay 18th and host Toulouse in their next league fixture.
