Prosper Peter struck in the 65th minute to spark Angers' fightback, but Rennes won 2-1.
Minutes after coming on, the 18-year-old arrived in the centre of the box to guide in Lilian Raolisoa's pass (65.). The timing of his run and first touch flipped the momentum.
He then drew a penalty (79.). Amine Sbaï's spot kick was saved by Brice Samba (81.), denying the substitute a second decisive contribution.
Peter finished with one attempt and one goal, plus a penalty won and two fouls drawn in 28 minutes, showing ruthless efficiency inside the area with two touches in the box.
By attacking the space between the centre-backs and staying on the last line, he repeatedly unsettled Rennes and gave Angers a direct route to goal.
Angers host Le Havre next. Rennes visit Strasbourg.
